Every road we see or drive on is the result of a long process
Every road we see or drive on is the result of a long process
One of the essential stages of this process is design. This is the stage where an idea turns into real technical solutions.
Road design is not a creation on a blank sheet. Design begins with certain initial data and conditions, as well as between a number of constraints: physical, legal, environmental, financial, territorial. It is a constant search for a balance between expectations and opportunities. Decisions are not made according to wishes, but according to what is allowed by the specific area, the legislation and the conditions laid down for the project.
Via Lietuva in the reconstructed section of the national road No. 173 Molėtai – Pabradė from 10,985 to 15,405 km, our team has reached a balance of solutions – prepared a project in which, after evaluating all restrictions and conditions, the change was implemented:
- Reconstructed bridge between two lakes;
- At the lakes, where the peat layer reaches up to 9 m, the road is built on squeezed piles;
- The road has been widened: from the former 4.5 m to 8.0 m asphalt pavement with 1.5 m curbs;
- Pedestrian paths, crossings, lighting, bus stops have been installed in the village of Inturkė;
- Low-noise asphalt pavement was used, a noise barrier was provided;
- The section is adapted for military vehicle traffic – the required road width, pavement strength and maneuverability conditions are ensured.
Design is only one of the links in the development of infrastructure. But it is here that it is decided whether ideas can become implementable, meaningful changes.
