Construction permit issued for transport infrastructure and engineering network works in the new medelynas quarter of the port city

The Klaipėda City Municipality has issued a permit to begin construction of transport infrastructure and engineering networks in the Medelynas quarter. The infrastructure development project for the brand-new residential district being created near Klaipėda University Hospital was prepared by the design company SRP projektas.

The construction permit has been granted for transport infrastructure works in the area adjacent to Labrenciškės, Ernesto Galvanausko, Jono Žiliaus-Jonilos, Savanorių, and M. Jankaus streets.

According to Tadas Kasperavičius, Director of SRP projektas—a design company belonging to one of the largest transport infrastructure groups, Fegda grupė—the Medelynas quarter project stands out for both its scale and nature. The transport and engineering infrastructure solutions are being developed for a территории that will gradually transform from open fields into a fully new residential neighborhood.

“This project is unique because the transport and engineering infrastructure is being created from an empty field into a fully functioning, modernly planned residential district. The opportunity to design infrastructure from scratch for a newly developed residential area is rare—in practice, we usually work on upgrading existing infrastructure. Therefore, we are very pleased to contribute to the creation of a new neighborhood with our ideas, creativity, and advanced solutions,” says Kasperavičius.

The new Medelynas quarter, being developed in the northern part of Klaipėda, is planned as a mixed-use residential area. Plots are designated for single-family and multi-apartment residential buildings, as well as spaces for educational institutions and other public facilities, including a shopping center.

“Our goal was to design convenient, safe, and functional infrastructure maximally adapted to meet the needs of future residents. During the design process, we paid significant attention to the integration of transport and engineering networks, as well as to the synergy between lighting and stormwater drainage systems. We hope that further development of the quarter will continue to focus strongly on creating a high-quality environment that meets modern residential planning standards,” says Kasperavičius.

According to the project, the Medelynas quarter will include approximately 2 km of streets with pedestrian and bicycle paths, 3.5 km of water supply networks, and 4.5 km of stormwater drainage networks, as well as sanitary sewer and heating networks and an underground heat pumping station.

According to Kasperavičius, the technical design for the Medelynas quarter infrastructure project is planned to be completed this spring.
